The Centre for Research on the Epidemiology of Disasters (CRED) recently held a training program on National Retrospective Disaster Loss Databases in Kampala, Uganda, from September 12-13, 2023. The objective of the training was to foster a better understanding and management of local disaster risks via the development of databases archiving historical disaster impacts at the subnational level. This effort involves comprehensive documentation of past disaster events and identification of specific local disaster risk needs, which should enable more effective data collection approaches.

This program, part of the larger EM-DAT project, was led by CRED in collaboration with the Unviersity of Makerere and supported by the Bureau for Humanitarian Assistance (BHA) of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). The School of Public Health (MakSPH) at the University of Makerere hosted the training, which was attended by 20 participants from this University.
